Five years ago, I only knew of Michael Jackson as a super famous mysterious entity who passed away suddenly. Of course I knew him as the “king of pop” and I knew of his major hits, but to me, he was just another celebrity who became troubled after his career peak and as a result, died too young.
In those five years since, I have listened to all of Michael’s albums, demos, interviews, anything and everything. I normally just listen to music and don’t necessarily look into the artists themselves, but with Michael it was different. For the first time in my entire life, I felt connected with the music and its creator. Since we live in a generation where a majority of the music is created by writers for a singer, learning of an artist who composed and subsequently performed his work at an unprecedented level caused me to truly love and appreciate Michael.
I love not only his passion for music, but also his compassion, his work ethic, and his humbleness. He is my only celebrity role model, and I feel as though I have a friendship with him. His music has gotten through really tough times in my life, and I thank him so much for that.
Although I was a “late fan” I really miss him and wish I had appreciated his music more when he was alive. That being said, he will always live in fans’ hearts, and frankly, music history.
Michael Jackson will always be the King of Pop and the best artist to ever live.
